Why Artiscycle?
Artiscycle is a collection of research about art, learning and participation. I look for examples and models of social practice in the context of a new art movement concerned with collaborative and relational situations. I post them here as open research, a platform for exchange I hope and dialogue about such examples.
I collect these examples because they bring me hope, they bring me happiness in an art world often bereft of the object-less "other". Examples through which our institutions can be re-imagined in their form and function, their reach and scope. This collection of research is about patterns and relationships, it's about the authenticity of artistic practice; the potentiality of being slow and intentional, of composing a sincere response to one's context and surroundings.
In this pattern I find something interesting. A bubbling up of transitional dialogues, of shifts toward the collaborative once again; the reunification of the "tribe", perhaps - now a "shared tribe". The tribe now composing the community we are situated in - the group of experts and enthusiasts we share a history, a repertoire and a shared enterprise with. And in this search I seek to find a place for my body. For myself and for my community.
I hope you enjoy some of these entries and examples as much as I do. For I've found that just as the ecosystems we depend on for life compose a vast network of systems - Art too composes its own cycle, its own network of influence, of intentions and cultural history. Where we find ourselves in this cycle is up to you, but I hope Artiscycle can be a map and that it may assist you in finding where you need to be and when you need to be there. For when it aligns perfectly, there will be someone there with open arms waiting to embrace you. Because now you know there are many others in the world striving every day to bring magic into the world just as you do - with a story, with an action, with others and themselves.
